During your pregnancy you will design your care plan. Some women will desire more involvement from me than will others. Our visits will be unhurried. The goal is to be sure that you achieve a level of education, confidence, and friendship that you need to be comfortable with the decisions you will make. My overriding concern is to support you as your listen to your instincts.
I am on call 24 hours a day for emergencies or if you are in labor. You can reach me any time from 9am-7pm for routine questions or to schedule appointments.  Your concerns are always important to me!
Developing a relationship built on trust is the cornerstone of midwifery care. During your pregnancy we will spend the majority of our time talking, through this I will have an understanding of your goals and wishes for your pregnancy and birth. This is your pregnancy, your body, and your baby. As your midwife, I may make suggestions from my knowledge base, but you have ownership.
My philosophy of birth has developed over time. Important in forming my belief that women are best able to give birth with loving support, but without interference were the writings of Michel Odent, Gloria Lemay, Sarah Buckley, and especially the tireless work of my friend Carla Hartley. They have opened my eyes to the ways that even midwives can interfere with the birth process. Birth is safest when it is unhindered. The safety of mother and baby are the absolute first priority of mine at all times.
I am blessed to have Deborah Eakes on my team as my assistant. Debbie has spent nearly a decade devoting herself to midwifery studies. We have worked together for more than two years without a hitch! I look forward to spending many more years serving women with Debbie who looks to complete her training soon. From time to time we have other helpers, assistants, or midwives who may assist or fill in for one of us. You will have a chance to get to know anyone who will be at your birth. No one will attend your birth with out your permission.

Placenta Encapsulation??

I joined Placenta Benefits in early 2009, as the first Placenta Encapsulation Specialist in the state of Virginia. Since then I have had the pleasure of preparing placentas for postpartum moms from Richmond to Chesapeake. I was attracted to the idea of encapsulation because I suffered from postpartum depression after several of my pregnancies. Traditional Chinese Medicine has used placentas to teat a variety of ailments for hundreds of years.

Obviously, this all sounds a little odd to most people. I promise, as fascinating as I think they are, I have no desire to eat a placenta! That is why encapsulating placentas makes so much sense. The capsules make it so easy, just like taking a vitamin.

Placentas are prepared according to food safety standards, in your own home. I come to your home to begin the process, and then return the next day to finish up. All of my clients have been surprised at how simple the process is...no mess is left behind! I will even make a print of your placenta and/or take photos at your request.

You do not have to be a client of Full Of Grace Midwifery to have your placenta encapsulated. Many of the moms I have helped have given birth in the hospital. Please seewww.placentabenefits.info for loads of information on the value and science behind placentaphagy. As always contact me for more information! 804-832-1439 or midwifebetts@gmail.com
